Jill Scott, the daughter of Joyce Scott in Philadelphia Pennsylvania was born April 4th in 1972. The family of Jill Scott consisted of her maternal grandparents and mother. The only child she has. Scott attended Philadelphia High School for Girls. Following graduation, Scott enrolled into Temple University. Along with two jobs part-time, she took classes in secondary teaching in Temple University. The hope was to become an English High School teacher. The dream of becoming a high-school English teacher, was shattered when she dropped out of high school. She started her career performing live poems and writing her own material. She eventually joined forces together with Amir Quest Thompson, a part of The Roots. You Got Me is the product of their partnership. The singer was initially spotted as an artiste at a Roots Show. Afterward she secured collaborations with stars like Eric Benet Will Smith and Common. Additionally, she was able to gain experience in the performing arts during the Broadway tour across Canada's musical Rent. She signed as the label's first artist.
